100 not out

Leading stallion Command becomes the first sire to reach 100 winners for the 2011/12 Australian racing season

For the second consecutive year, Danehill stallion Commands has become the first Australian-based sire to achieve 100 winners for the season and what makes this season’s achievement even more significant than the previous, is that it was achieved in an even quicker time.

Ending the last complete racing season with 155 individual winners to his credit, Commands is well on track to break that mark with more than five months of the season still remaining.

The horse responsible for assisting Commands in recording his 100th winner was the Peter Moody-trained three-year-old filly Permission. Having her third trip to the races, the Stuart Ramsey-owned filly dominated her rivals, scoring by five lengths over the 1000m. Out of the Royal Academy mare Bound, Permission comes from the family of G1 winners Wrap Around and Fashions Afield.

Having recorded more winners in the last three racing seasons that any other stallions, Commands has eight Stakes winners so far this season in Australia which places him third overall on the General Sires table.

With his current flag-bearer being the four-time Stakes winner Rain Affair, the winner of his last nine on end, Commands will be represented by two yearlings over the final days of the Inglis Premier yearling sale and a further nine at the Inglis Easter yearling sale which commences on April 10, including lot 331, a filly out of the G1 winner Our Egyptian Rain.
