Magic Millions day one roundup

First yearlings by Nadeem make a promising start at the sales whilst Commands and Lonhro enjoy a successful opening session

The 2010 Magic Millions Yearling Sale commenced on 6 January, and despite the tough trading conditions there were still several highlights for the Darley stallions.

The first yearlings by G1 Blue Diamond winner Nadeem (pictured) sell this year and on Wednesday two of his offspring found new homes for $90,000 and $130,000.

His colt from Empirical (Woodman) was bought by Bahen Bloodstock for $130,000 and will now head to Hong Kong. The dam is a half-sister to G1 Queensland Derby winner Empires Choice and is a granddaughter of multiple G1 winner Empire Rose. Earlier in session, lot 116 – a filly out of the winning Spectrum mare Cash For Comment was bought for $90,000 by Star Thoroughbreds. She is from the family of fellow Darley stallion Commands, who also enjoyed a successful opening session.

Commands had three yearlings sell on the day at an average of just under $212,000 – well above the sale average of $125,409. His top price was $260,000 for his daughter out of G3 placegetter Another Time, herself a half-sister to multiple Black type winner Presently.

Meanwhile Ingham Racing went to $280,000 to secure Lonhro’s colt from proven Stakes producer Yellow And Black.
