Two-year-old gelding Detonate claimed the Vinery Stud Plate at Coffs Harbour on January 8 by a short head, defeating Commands filly Biscay Sport and in the process became the first Australian winner for his sire, the G2-winning son of Flying Spur, Shaft.
Bred by Greg Ingham, Detonate is out of the Grand Lodge mare Chapatti and is one of seven winners for the mare, which also includes the eight-time-winning Commands gelding On My Command.
Trained by Mark Lynch, Detonate joins New Zealand winner Deakes, as well as the G3-placed Magic Shaft as flag bearers for their sire, who to date, has only had a handful of starters.
Shaft has two yearlings entered in the forthcoming Magic Millions yearling sales on the Gold Coast in the shape of lots 663 and 847, with a further eight yearlings catalogued for the Inglis Classic yearling sale that will commence on January 22.
A winner of the G2 Silver Slipper as a two-year-old on debut, Shaft is out of the Rahy mare Traceable and is from the family of Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy, who incidentally was covered by Street Cry last season, her first year at stud.
