Seven straight for Rain Affair

Second Stakes success for son of Commands

Commands outstanding sprinting son Rain Affair made it seven straight wins with a record-breaking performance to land the Listed Carrington Stakes over 1100m at Warwick Farm on January 2.

Under top-weight of 59kg, Rain Affair was away fast to lead and he was first for home, staying on very strongly to defeat Jest Crewsin.

"There's more to come and he's handled the faster ground today and broken the course record," said winning trainer Joe Pride.

"He's got a high cruising speed and he can quicken, they're two rare qualities."

Rain Affair is inbred to the great mare Eight Carat through her grandsons Commands and Octagonal and he is raced by his breeder Don Storey, who has been breeding racehorses for more than 50 years, starting off with a filly called Rain Mist, a daughter of 1945 Melbourne Cup winner Rainbird, who features as the ancestress of Rain Affair.

Rain Affair is out of I Believe, who has a two-year-old filly by Shamardal called Gullible and she has a 2011 colt by Domesday. Commands is the leading sire in Australia this season by winners with 84 and his total number of wins 109 better than any other stallion in the land.

With 20 yearlings catalogue for the forthcoming Magic Millions yearling sale, the Stakes success in recent days of not only Rain Affair, but Queen's Command in South Africa, is only going to add further selling power to these yearlings.
