First runner, first winner

Shamardal two-year-old strikes on debut at Taree

Happy Hippy’s name will go down in history as the first ever runner – and winner – for her sire Shamardal.

The filly is out of the Soviet Lad mare Springburn, who is a half-sister to G1 Salinger Stakes winner Notoire. Happy Hippy, who cost $32,000 as a yearling when purchased from the Inglis Winter Mixed Sale, made her victorious debut in the 1000m open handicap at Taree on Monday. She races for Nathan Tinkler’s Patinack Farm and is trained by Jason Coyle.

Shamardal currently has his first yearlings selling in the northern hemisphere, where they have averaged 77,443gns (A$206,400).
