Shamardal filly gains black type

Marquardt runs third in Listed Widden Stakes; Quest For Fame and Strategic sire G2 place-getters

At Randwick on Saturday, Shamardal (pictured) filly Marquardt gained valuable black type for herself and her sire when running third in the Listed Widden Stakes over 1100m. Making her second start after a successful debut at Rosehill, she was checked at a vital stage before running on in the stretch to be beaten two-lengths by the winner.

Bred by Little Avondale Trust, she is out of the Centaine mare Centrefold Angel and a relative of G1 scorers Dandy Andy and Ballroom Babe.

Later on the card, Strategic colt Desuetude ran third in the G2 Royal Sovereign Stakes. Making only his sixth start, he has now won three (one at G3 level) with a second and two thirds in his other starts.

Bred by Woodlands Stud and trained by Peter Snowden, he is out of the five-time winning Unbridled's Song mare, Martella.

At Moonee Valley, Quest For Fame filly Lamarr ran a close second behind Romneya in the G2 Fillies' Classic. This was her first run at Stakes level and she took the step up well in her stride, being beaten only half-a-length.

Bred in NSW by Mr G Harvey, she is out of Danehill mare Lupenta, a granddaughter of G1 scorer Midnight Fever.
