Bernardini on top at Keeneland

Bernardini maintains his position as leading freshman at the sales, recording a Book One average of over $330,000

Despite trading conditions whcih could be described as tough, to say the least, at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, the first yearlings by Darley stallion Bernardini continued to prove popular, with the World Champion of 2006 retaining his position as leading freshman sire by average at this year’s sales.

Fourteen of his yearlings sold during Book One, averaging just over US$330,000 (A$379,000). His highest price was US$575,000 (A$660,300), given by Live Oak Plantation for his colt out of the Stakes-winning Deputy Minister mare Pilfer. During Monday’s opening session, another of his offspring made it to the half-million dollar mark when BBA Ireland went to US$500,000 (A$574,300) to secure his daughter out of Tap Your Heels who is also the dam of G1 winner and promising young sire Tapit.

Street Cry, who is enjoying another outstanding year with his runners, also featured in the highest prices of the second session with his colt out of proven black type producer Call Her selling to John Ferguson for US$800,000 (A$919,000).
