As the rain cleared and the sun came out on the Gold Coast, Greater Asian Holdings parted with $410,000 for lot 77, a chestnut colt by Shamardal out of the Rivotious mare Confidential Miss.
A half-brother to the Stakes performed Oh Eight Hundred, the colt - who comes from the family of G1 Doncaster Handicap winner Patezza - was the equal third-highest priced yearling purchased on day one.
With three yearlings sold on day one for an average just over $200,000, Shamardal has a further nine lots catalogued for the remaining days of the sale.
Later in the day, Duncan Ramage's DGR Thoroughbreds signed for lot 108, a Street Sense colt out of the winning Danzero mare Dazzerdame. Knocked down for $145,000, no other yearling by a first-season sire made more during the first day of the sale.
The history making son of Street Cry proved popular with buyers, with all four yearlings offered being sold, including lot 40, a half-sister to G1 Golden Slipper winner Calaway Gal which was knocked down to Glenn Williams for $90,000.
