Who Da Boss put in a sustained rally in the final furlong to capture the Daniel Stearns Cleveland Gold Cup by three-quarters of a length at Thistledown on Saturday, 22 June.
The win in the Cleveland Gold Cup was the first Stakes victory for the three-year-old Street Boss gelding, who has now finished first or second seven times in 10 career starts.
Who Da Boss was unhurried early, content to race at the rear of the field of seven as Fact Not Fiction (Yoshida) led the way through the opening half-mile. Who Da Boss closed willingly while racing three-wide through the far turn and upper stretch to engage Shadowy for the lead with a furlong left to run. That pair matched strides through the lane, with Who Da Boss finally edging clear late to get the win.
Bred in Ohio by Raimonde Farm and Steve M. DeMaiolo, Who Da Boss is out of Come Sunday, a Stakes winning daughter of Repent. In addition to Who Da Boss, Come Sunday has also produced multiple Stakes winner Someday Soon and Stakes-placed Let’s Be Clear.
The sire of former champion Australian galloper Anamoe - who won nine Group 1 races before retiring to stand at stud for Darley, Street Boss also sired Traffic Warden to win the G2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1,400m) at Flemington and Another Will to win the G3 Doncaster Prelude (1,500m) at Rosehill Gardens.
The stallion will again stand at Northwood Park in Victoria in 2024 for a service fee of $66,000, GST inclusive.
