Lim’s Kosciuszko again proved he was the best horse racing in Singapore with a courageous victory in the Listed E.W. Barker Trophy over 1,400m at Kranji on Sunday, 21 April.
Giving the unbeaten Lim’s Saltoro 7.5kg under the handicaps, Lim’s Kosciuszko held off his younger stablemate after racing in second spot and taking the lead at the top of the home straight.
Under the urgings of jockey Marc Lerner, the six-year-old son of Darley stallion Kermadec won by a nose, with the talented Golden Monkey 2.4 lengths away in third place.
Lim’s Kosciuszko covered the distance in a fast 1 minute 21.03 seconds to record his ninth Stakes victory and the 19th win of his glittering 25-start career.
A feature race winner from 1200m (Lion City Cup) to 2,000m (Singapore Gold Cup) for trainer Dan Meagher, Lim’s Kosciuszko has proven a remarkable and versatile galloper who now boasts prize-money earnings of S$2,603,293.
Out of the Stakes-winning New Zealand mare Jacquetta, Lim’s Kosciuszko was offered by Trelawney Stud at the 2019 Karaka Yearling Sale but passed in after failing to reach his NZ$75,000 reserve.
Kermadec was a dual G1 winner on the racetrack and has now sired 94 winners of 249 races worldwide.
Among his seven Stakes-race winners of 20 Black-Type races are G1 winners Montefilia (four), Willowy, Tuvalu and Amokura.
The stallion, who has proven his ability to sire winners of races from 1,000m to 2,400m, had his only lot on offer sell at this month’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney for $100,000.
Kermadec will again stand at Darley’s Northwood Park property near Seymour, Victoria in 2024.
