Lim’s Kosciuszko defended his crown in the Listed Kanji Mile (1,600m) in Singapore on Saturday, 18 May and chalked up the 10th Stakes-race victory of his glittering 26-start career.
The six-year-old son of Darley stallion Kermadec proved too strong for Dream Alliance and Golden Monkey after sitting outside the lead before printing to the front at the 400m pole.
Winner of the Listed E.W. Barker Trophy (1,400m) at Kranji on 21 April, the Dan Meagher-trained gelding responded to jockey Marc Lerner to record his 20th win in 1 minute 34.21 seconds.
Also the son of Stakes-winning New Zealand mare Jacquetta, Lim’s Kosciuszko was offered by Trelawney Stud at the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale but was passed in after failing to reach his NZ$75,000 reserve.
Kermadec won two Group 1 races and has now sired 94 winners of 257 races across the world.
The sire of winners from 1,000m to 2,400m, Kermadec is the sire of recent Listed Wangoom Handicap (1,200m) winner Tuvalu – who is one of the stallion’s four Group 1 winners.
Lim’s Kosciuszko’s victory came just a few hours after Sonofdec (out of Imperial Rule (High Chaparral)) impressively won the Benchmark 72 Handicap over 1,700m at the Scone metropolitan meeting, securing a trip to Brisbane to contest next month’s Group 1 Queensland Derby (2,400m).
Kermadec will stand at Darley’s Northwood Park property near Seymour, Victoria this year for a service fee of $16,500 including GST.
