Golden Mile bounced back to best form and gave his sire Astern another Stakes winner at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 9 September when he won the G2 Theo Marks Quality over 1,300m.
A G1 winner of last year’s Caulfield Guineas, Golden Mile had raced without luck - including when severely checked first-up in the Missile Stakes at Rosehill on 5 August.
Jockey Nash Rawiller settled the four-year-old, out of the dual Stakes-winning Lonhro mare Calaverite, in third spot on the fence and never went around a horse.
Golden Mile sprinted home his last 600m in sub 33.3 seconds, proving too strong for backmarker The Inevitable and Waterford, finishing strongly to grab third place.
The win was the stallion’s fifth from 13 starts and lifted Astern’s sire record to 152 winners of 272 races, including 19 Stakes races.
Astern won five races - including the 2016 G1 Golden Rose - and his progeny include G1 winner Affaire A Suivre and Stakes winners Aft Cabin, Seradess and Parisal.
Astern stands at Kelvinside in the NSW Hunter Valley for a service fee of $22,000 inc GST.
