North Star Lass’s (Zoustar) victory in the G2 Furious Stakes over 1,200m - the second leg of the rich Darley Princess Series for three-year-old fillies, delighted her trainers, owners and breeders alike.
North Star Lass, out of the Australian mare Sheila’s Star and co-trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, was bred by Rosemont Stud and Fern Vale Farm.
Apart of Darley’s sponsorship of the series, as breeders of the black type pedigree mare, Rosemont Stud and Fern Vale Farm will be rewarded for the fillies gallant victory, receiving a nomination to the dual G1 winning son of Shamardal Victor Ludorum.
The filly took her record to two wins and a placing from four starts and co-trainer Gai Waterhouse was thrilled with the filly’s performance and has always held her in high regard.
“Before she was perhaps worth $300,000 but with this G2 win she’s a $1million filly,” Waterhouse said.
“This filly is on the Flight Stakes path, that’s where she’s headed, she’s such a good filly.”
The Darley Princess Series fillies now step up to 1,400m on 17 September for the G2 Tea Rose Stakes, with the winning breeder allowed a nomination to Darley stallion and Champion Two-Year-Old Earthlight.
The series then culminates with the running of the $750,000 Flight Stakes at G1 level over 1,600m on Saturday, 1 October with the winning breeder receiving a nomination to five-time G1 winner and three-time Champion Palace Pier.
