The high demand in the United States for the first crop of Frosted has carried through to Australia where his yearling half-sister to the star sprinter Santa Ana Lane made $650,000 at Thursday’s second session of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
A daughter of the Fastnet Rock mare Fast Fleet, the filly was knocked down to Spendthrift Farm who also purchased two members of Frosted’s first American crop last year.
The filly’s latest sale followed an earlier appearance when she made $300,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.
She came to the Gold Coast this week as a member of the Widden Stud draft as agent for Redwall Bloodstock.
Fast Fleet also went under the hammer in 2019, selling for $800,000 at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale. She has since produced a filly by Zoustar and is in foal to Fastnet Rock.
The decision to purchase the filly was a simple one, according to Spendthrift’s general manager in Australia Gary Cuddy.
“She is an absolutely gorgeous type, she looks very fast,” Cuddy said.
“She has a beautiful pedigree, being from a top sprinting family, so was a no-brainer for us to target.”

Fast Fleet’s only two foals to race have been winners with Santa Ana Lane having collected five G1 wins and more than $7 million in prizemoney.
Frosted, whose Australian home is at Northwood Park Stud in Victoria, has only three yearlings catalogued at the Gold Coast but has 15 entered for the Inglis Premier Sale in Melbourne in March.
Day Two at Magic Millions further demonstrated the prowess of the Darley stallions most prolific Australian-based stallion, Exceed And Excel, the growing confidence in Exosphere and the popularity of Astern’s first crop.
Lot 859: Colt by Exceed And Excel x Testa Secret offered at the Saturday night session
Having led the averages at the end of Day One, Exceed And Excel yearlings were again in demand with all six to sell making six figures, the pick of them Lot 362, a colt from the unraced Harbour Watch mare Harbour Fun who went to the $500,000 bid of Guy Mulcaster.
Exceed And Excel finished the session with his 11 yearlings to sell to date having averaged $410,000 against a sale average of $249,000.
Exosphere passed a personal landmark with Lot 410, a colt from the Commands mare Iridescente, who was claimed by leading trainer John Hawkes for $260,000, a record in Australia for a yearling by its sire.
Iridescente is a city winner in Melbourne and the half-sister of champion Hong Kong G1-winning sprinter Absolute Champion and the South African G1 winner Wylie Hall.
Having kicked off with a $725,000 sale on Wednesday, Astern’s first-crop continued to sell well with a further three six-figure sales at the second session.
The sale continues on Thursday with the third of four Book One sessions.
