Mshawish Edges Valid To Win G3 Hal’s Hope Stakes

Sons of Medaglia d’Oro provide sire with Graded Stakes exacta

Mshawish battled a stubborn Valid the length of the stretch before edging clear in the shadow of the wire to win the eight furlong G3 Hal’s Hope Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

It was the first Graded Stakes victory on dirt for the son of Medaglia d’Oro, who notched victories in the G1 Gulfstream Park Turf and G2 Fort Lauderdale in 2015. The six-year-old horse also was a sharp fourth in the G1 Cigar Mile last season, which marked his main track debut.

Bred in Kentucky by OTIF 2007, Mshawish is out of the Thunder Gulch mare Thunder Bayou, who is a half-sister to Stakes winners Meteorologist and Bayou Breeze, the dam of Stakes winner Branded.

Medaglia d’Oro was the sire of 29 Stakes winners in 2015 including G1 Golden Slipper winner Vancouver, dual G1-winning juvenile filly Songbird and Gold Medal Dancer, winner of the G2 Azeri Stakes.
