Fifth winner for Denman

Shigeru Sendan impresses in Canterbury victory

Two-year-old Denman filly Shigeru Sendan became the fifth winner from her sire’s first crop with a fast-finishing win over 1200m at Canterbury, April 30.

Having her second start after an unlucky sixth on debut at Warwick Farm, Shigeru Sendan settled back in the field on the rails. Held up behind horses turning in to the straight, jockey Tim Clark weaved a passage through the field and the filly sprouted wings over the final 200m to win convincingly.

Bred by Rothwell Park, Shigeru Sendan is out of Encosta de Lago mare Flute Of Bubbly, a metropolitan winner in Adelaide over 2200m. Flute Of Bubbly’s dam Midnight Mist is a three-quarter sister to G2 winner Truly Wicked, dam of Exceed And Excel’s recent G1 Al Quoz Sprint winner Amber Sky.

Sire of Listed Breeders’ Plate winner Law and Stakes-placed filly Piacenza, Denman has his promising son Inkulu tackling Stakes company for the first time in the Listed Mt Dandenong Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

Denman is standing the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $33,000 inc. GST.
