Eighth G1 winner for Bernardini

Hall Of Fame trainer Leon Macdonald labeled two-year-old Bernardini filly Go Indy Go as potentially the best horse he has trained following her brilliant win in the G1 Champagne Stakes over 1600m at Randwick, April 26.

Stakes-placed at her first two starts and a last-start winner of the G3 Sires’ Produce Stakes in Adelaide, Go Indy Go went to another level at her fourth start, coming with a powerful burst from second last to win the Champagne Stakes. Lonhro colt Kumaon fought on bravely for third.

Raced in partnership by her breeder Harry Perks, Go Indy Go is the second foal of Zabeel mare Elegant Eagle, making her a full-sister to Essay Raider (winner of the G3 DC McKay Stakes at Morphettville later in the day).

Go Indy Go is the fifth consecutive Darley-sired winner of the Champagne Stakes with the four winners prior being Guelph (Exceed And Excel), Pierro (Lonhro), Helmet (Exceed And Excel) and Skilled (Commands).

Go Indy Go is the eighth G1 winner for Bernardini who is also the sire of three-time G1 winner Boban, G1-winning juvenile Ruud Awakening and rising star Zanbagh, runner-up in the G1 VRC Oaks in the Spring and the G1 Australian Oaks last weekend.
