Darley stallions lead the way at Inglis Easter yearling sale

Street Cry caps off a big three days finishing as the leading sire by average

Street Cry finished the Inglis Easter yearling sale in Sydney as the leading sire by average for three or more lots sold following the third and final day of selling, April 10.

Despite the colt out of Typhoon Tracy passing in for $2.1 million, Street Cry’s average of $465,500 for his 10 lots sold was still clearly the best average of the sale. His colt out of Star On High was the equal second-highest lot of the sale, selling to Emirates Park and Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum for $1.5 million, a record price for a Street Cry yearling in Australia. Street Cry also achieved his best result for a yearling filly in Australia with lot 127, a daughter of Lonhro mare Munhro, selling for $1.05 million.

Commands also achieved a new benchmark on the final day of selling, his filly out of Stakes winner Crossyourheart from the Tyreel Stud draft, selling to Shadwell Australasia for $600,000. That equaled Commands’ highest ever price for a yearling and became his top-priced filly ever.

The very next lot, Medaglia d'Oro equaled his best result in Australia with his daughter of Snippets mare Cryptic Miss, the dam of G1 Victoria Derby winner Fiveandahalfstar, knocked down to Dean Hawthorne for $500,000.

Lot 378, a New Approach colt out of G3-winning Danehill mare Clothilde was another highlight of the final day. After a spirited bidding dual, Shadwell Australasia again came out on top, securing the colt for $400,000.

It was a record-breaking three days for the Darley stallions with Exceed And Excel having his second ever seven-figure yearling with his colt out of Allegra selling for $1 million. This gave the Darley stallions three of the seven lots in the sale to reach the million-dollar mark.

Lonhro broke new ground with his $840,000 filly out Midnight Joy the most ever paid for one of his daughters, while his son Denman also set a new record when his colt out of Commands mare Many Facets sold for $380,000 to Unifaith Bloodstock.
