Bright future predicted for Medaglia d'Oro colt

Nostradamus becomes the first Australian winner for his sire

Medaglia d'Oro two-year-old colt Nostradamus became the first Australian winner for his star sire with a brilliant debut victory in the Nursery Plate over 1100m at Flemington, January 18.

Sent out a short-priced favourite, Nostradamus quickly recovered after an awkward start to take up the lead. From there, the colt was never seriously challenged, going on to record a soft two-length victory.

A $500,000 Easter yearling, Nostradamus was bred by Almavale Bloodstock. The fourth foal of G3-winning Lion Hunter mare Leone Chiara, Nostradamus is half-brother to multiple G1 winner Star Witness who he will try to emulate next month by winning the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes.

The sire of nine G1 winners in the northern hemisphere including Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, Medaglia d’Oro’s second-crop yearlings averaged $232,500 with a top price of $280,000 earlier this month at the Magic Millions yearling sale on the Gold Coast.
