Mail delivers first-class Stakes victory at Aqueduct

Three-year-old colt is Medaglia d'Oro's 18th Stakes winner of 2013

A small but quality field entered the gate for the Listed Traskwood Stakes at Aqueduct on December 27th but it was Medaglia d'Oro’s three-year-old son Mail that proved much the best becoming his sire’s 18th Stakes winner of 2013 and the 50th of his stud career.

In his previous two wins, Mail was either first or second at every call and the 1700m Traskwood was no different as the sophomore colt lead from gate to wire.

Bred by Edward P. Evans in Virginia, Mail was purchased by his current owners Mr. and Mrs. William K. Warren Jr., at the 2011 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $470,000. He is out of G2 winner Tap Dance, she a half-sister to G1 Carter Handicap winner Swagger Jack and to the dam of G1 winner Malibu Prayer.

Medaglia d’Oro’s other 2013 Stakes winners include G1 winner Marketing Mix as well as six other Group or Graded winners. He is represented by a total of nine G1 winners during his career, led by Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, and has sired a total of 24 Group or Graded winners.

The leading first-season sire at the yearling sales this year, Medaglia d'Oro will have four second-crop yearlings at the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast next month and their pedigrees can be viewed by clicking here.
