Paximadia becomes Stakes winner 59

Commands colt leads all the way for first career Stakes win

Resuming from a two-year-old campaign that culminated with a narrow third behind Romantic Touch and Zoustar in the G1 J.J. Atkins during the Queensland Winter carnival, Commands colt Paximadia came across from a wide gate to lead throughout, recording victory in the Vintage Stakes over 1410m at Flemington on October 5.

Starting the race favourite, the Nash Rawiller-ridden colt defeated I Am Titanium by a length, with a further three-quarters-of-a-length to Exceed And Excel's G3 winner Champollion.

Lightly raced, the Peter Snowden-trained colt has never finished further back that fourth and the form through his career to date has already held up with Zoustar going on to claim the G1 Golden Rose at his most recent run.

Bred by Darley, Paximadia is the first winner out of the French-winning Fantastic Light mare Latona, a half-sister to the G3 winners Graikos and Magna Graecia and the Listed winner Parthenon. With Paximadia's grand-dam Grecian Slipper being a daughter of the G1 winner Helen Street, the dam of Street Cry as well as from the family of Shamardal, Paximada has an extremely international pedigree.

As the sire of 59 Stakes winner globally, highlighted by nine G1 winners including last season’s triple G1 winner Appearance, as well as Epaulette, the winner of the G1 Golden Rose, Commands is standing the current breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $55,000 (inc. GST).
