Toydini claims third Group race victory in G3 Cameron Handicap

Bernardini recorded his second Australian Stakes winner in the past five days when Toydini claimed the G3 Cameron Handicap over 1500m at Newcastle, September 18.

Toydini’s win followed the success of Bernardini’s daughter Forever Discreet in the Listed Morphettville Guineas on Saturday.

Jockey Blake Shinn quickly overcame Toydini’s wide barrier draw in the Cameron Handicap, positioning himself midfield with cover in the early stages. The four-year-old looked to have the race within his keeping turning for home as Shinn made his move up the centre of the track. Toydini hit the lead at the 100m mark and was given an easy time by Shinn over the concluding stages, going on to win by over a length.

Bred by Bob and Jan Bergstrom, Toydini is out of the dual Listed-winning, multiple G1 placed Johan Cruyff mare Johan’s Toy, a half-sister to G2 winner Extra Zero and G3 winner Operetta Lass. Like Bernardini’s Champion New Zealand juvenile of last year Ruud Awakening, Toydini is out of a Danehill-line mare.

Bernardini is Australia’s leading third-crop sire and is the sire of 24 Stakes winners worldwide. In addition to Ruud Awakening, he has another five G1 winners including recent Woodward Stakes winner Alpha.

Bernardini is standing the current breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $33,000 inc. GST.
