Approaching something special

With seven yearlings by the Champion two and three-year-old New Approach selling on day two of the sale, the resultant average achieved by those yearlings pushed the Darley shuttler into third position with an average of $171,786 (3 or more sold).

Achieving the third top price of the sale for lot 201, the Supreme Thoroughbreds (as agent)-consigned chestnut colt was knocked down for $310,000 to Rockmount Stud. Out of the G3 placed Saint Ballado mare Expensively, the colt is from the family of three-time G1-winning Champion USA filly Christmas Past.

Randwick-trainer Les Bridge went to $230,000 to secure lot 192, a colt by New Approach out of the Cape Town mare Cape Augutsa, a half-sister to G2 winner Buffythecentrefold and from the family of Street Cry’s dual G1 winner Whobegotyou.

Having purchased a New Approach half-sister to Lonhro Stakes winner Eight Till Late at the 2012 Inglis Premier yearling sale, Caulfield-based trainer Clinton McDonald returned in 2013 and went to $170,000 to purchase lot 173, an impressive New Approach filly. Consigned by leading South Australian farm Mill Park, the filly is out of a sister G1 winner Hard To Get, as well as a half-sister to G3 winners Fumble and Reputed Groom.

Other Darley stallions to sell well on day two of the Premier sale include lot 286, a Street Sense colt which made $200,000 for Vendor Supreme Thoroughbreds as well as as lot 247, an Exceed And Excel colt which made $220,000 for vendor Kornong Stud Farm.
