Denman ends Karaka sales on top

Lonhro’s son Denman ends the New Zealand Bloodstock sales series as the leading first season sire

With the massive seven-day Karaka 2013 National Yearling Sales Series completed for another year and results of all three sales – Premier, Select and Festival combined, Denman has come out on top as the leading first-season sire of the sales for the five yearlings he had sell.

Achieving an average of NZ$113,000, significantly higher than his nearest competitor in his category, as well as the overall sale average of NZ$70,899, the top priced achieved by a Denman yearling was for lot 108, a brown colt out of the Stakes placed Distinctive Lass. Knocked down to Jason Abraham’s Champion Thoroughbreds for NZ$170,000, the colt will head to the stable of leading Randwick-based trainer John O’Shea.

Not only did Denman make an impact at the sales, but Street Cry ended the sale achieving the second highest average overall with an impressive figure of NZ$263,333, while Commands ended in fourth position with NZ$251,250.

As we head to the next sale in the yearling sale series, the 2013 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, set to commence on 3 March, Denman will be represented by 12 yearlings, while Street Cry has three yearlings catalogued.
