Ruud Awakening blows them away at Karaka

Two-year-old Bernardini filly Ruud Awakening wins the Listed Karaka Million at Ellerslie

Starting a dominant favourite in the NZ $1million Karaka Million, two-year-old Bernardini filly Ruud Awakening jumped straight to the front and the race was never in doubt, going on to record a three length victory, her second Stakes win from five starts.

Having now won four of her five starts, her only defeat came when she finished a long neck second to the unbeaten Lonhro filly Bounding in the Listed Murdoch Newell Stakes.

Bred by Watson Bloodstock, Ruud Awakening is out of the Danehill mare Dawn Almighty, a full-sister to Quintilla (dam of the dual G2 winner Ruud Van Slaats) and a half-sister to Listed winner Chester County. Dawn Almighty has a yearling full sister to Ruud Awakening.

The sire of 18 Stakes winners internationally highlighted by G1 winners Alpha, Stay Thirsty, To Honor And Serve, Biondetti and A Z Warrior, Bernardini oldest runners in the southern hemisphere are only three and he has been represented by not only Ruud Awakening, but Solemn, Meidung and Boban.

Bernardini will have three yearlings on offer at the Karaka Premier yearling sale which commences on 28 January, 13 yearlings at the Inglis Premier yearling sale in March and a further eight yearlings at the Inglis Easter yearling sale in April.
