Hard Spun filly takes Japanese G1

Someries remains unbeaten winning the Zen-Nihon 2YO Yushun

Someries, a two-year-old daughter of Hard Spun who was bred by Darley in Japan, maintained her unbeaten dirt record in emphatic style on December 19 when running out the three-length winner of the Zen-Nihon Nisai Yushun (JPN G1), run over 1600m at Kawasaki.

Racing in the colors of HRH Princess Haya’s, the Kenichi Fujioka-trained filly became the first female to land this valuable race since 2009.

Someries broke her maiden by an impressive six lengths at Kyoto on 4 November and followed up with a victory over 1400m at Hanshin a month later.

Bred by Darley, she is the fifth winner out of the Mr. Prospector mare Miss Adorable, herself a granddaughter of multiple G1 winner Adored. Miss Adorable is also dam of G3 colt U Appeal To Me.

Hard Spun has enjoyed an outstanding year in 2012, siring G1 winners Questing and Zo Impressive, plus an additional 26 Black type performers. His local progeny are led by Stakes placed filly Coins and exciting colts Crystal Web and Western Blaze. He currently stands at Darley's Northwood Park in Victoria for a fee of $16,500 (Inc. GST).
