2yo becomes the 52nd Stakes winner for Commands

The stellar season being enjoyed by Commands continued when his two-year-old son Catalonia took the Listed Wentwood Grange Stakes over 1100m at Te Rapa on Saturday.

Showing the benefit of his debut run, Catalonia  proved strongest at the finish in defeating Gateway by an impressive three-lengths at the finish with the Segenhoe Stud-owned Total Response, a daughter of Kheleyf, a good third on debut.

Bred by G J Cranny, Frantic Bloodstock Ltd & Haunui Bloodstock Ltd, Catalonia is out of Valpolicella, a daughter of Red Ransom and winner of the G3 Manawatu Classic. Valpolicella returned to Commands last season.

Commands has sired G1 winners Epaulette, Commanding Jewel and Appearance so far this season and his G1 winning son Skilled is standing his first season at stud at Darley Northwood Park.

Commands stands at Darley Kelvinside where his fee in 2012 is $55,000 incl GST.
