Free Wheeling leads home Darley stallion one-two

Ad Valorem’s G2-winning son takes Listed race first-up on Thousand Guineas day

Resuming off a recent barrier trial victory, Ad Valorem four-year-old Free Wheeling recorded his third Stakes victory, taking out the Listed Heading Out Hair & Beauty Stakes by a length-and-three-quarters from Lonhro gelding Petman at Caulfield on 17 October.

Jumping away from barrier 2, Free Wheeling went forward to sit in fourth position, not too far from the leader Petman. As the field rounded the home turn jockey Hugh Bowman pulled his charge out from behind the leader’s back to assert his authority, going on to score with ease. Ridden by Bowman for the fourth time, the Sydney-based jockey has recorded all three Stakes wins on the talented entire.

Trainer Peter Snowden indicated that the G2-winning juvenile will head towards the G1 Emirates Stakes over 1600m on the last day of the Flemington carnival.

Bred by Darley, Free Wheeling is out of the Last Tycoon mare Miss Carefree and comes from the family of G1 VRC Derby runner-up Hydrometer as well as G1 winners Toltrice, Keltrice and Red Dazzler.

The sire of seven Stakes winners including G2 winner Pied A Terre and recent G3 winner Detours, Ad Valorem is standing the current breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $16,500 (inc. GST).
