War Machine won his third race in succession and also gave his sire Harry Angel a third Stakes winner in less than a week when he easily won the Listed Bendigo Guineas (1,400m) on Saturday, 13 April.
The three-year-old gelding travelled kindly in third spot on the fence for jockey Jordan Childs before sprinting through a gap and winning by two lengths from Elphinstone, with Modown a length away in third place.
Out of the Australian mare Caserta (Hussonet), War Machine was bred by Mdj Bloodstock Ltd and was offered at the 2022 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale by Ardsley Stud.
The colt was passed in after failing to meet his NZ$100,000 reserve and also passed in at the 2022 Ready To Run Sale before entering the stables of trainer Mike Moroney at Flemington.
A Kyneton and Cranbourne restricted winner in March, War Machine took the step up to Listed company in his stride to take his record to three wins and one placing from five starts for prize-money of $160,110.
The win continued a terrific run for Darley shuttle stallion Harry Angel, who also sired Vicious Harry (Umneeyatee by Encost de Lago) to win the Listed Prix Cor de Chasse at Deauville (1,100m) and A Lilac Rolla (Mejala by Red Ransom) a winner of the G3 Priory Belle Stakes (1435m) at Leopardstown.
Harry Angel has now sired 120 winners of 222 races worldwide, including 11 individual Stakes winners of 16 Black-Type races.
