Violence too strong in G1 CashCall Futurity

Ninth G1 winner for Medaglia d'Oro

Medaglia d'Oro sired his ninth G1 winner on December 15 as his two-year-old son Violence remained unbeaten when dominating the G1 CashCall Futurity at Hollywood Park.

Sent off as a heavy 6-5 favourite, Violence stalked the early leaders in the 1700m race. Rounding the far turn he began to advance on the inside. The colt then travelled wide to take the lead at the top of the straight and there was no stopping him from there. Already a G3 winner by Medaglia d'Oro, Den's Legacy closed strongly for third.

Violence most recently won the G2 Nashua Stakes at Aqueduct prior to heading west for this G1 event. The colt was a US$600,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase and is out of the Gone West mare Violent Beauty. Violence is from a strong family that includes Champion Older Mare Sky Beauty in addition to G1 winners Maplejinsky, Dayjur, Tale Of Ekati, Pleasant Home, and Pine Island. He was bred by Dell Ridge Farm, LLC.

Violence joins an elite group of G1 winners sired by Medaglia d'Oro. Among them are renowned Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, G1 Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty, and Marketing Mix who won the G1 Rodeo Drive Stakes on the turf in 2012. Violence is the second Graded Stakes winner on the day for the sire, as he is also represented by G3 Aichi Hai winner A Shin Memphis at Chukyo in Japan.

With his first southern hemisphere-bred crop of yearlings heading to the sales in 2013, Medaglia d'Oro will be represented by eight yearlings at the Magic Millions yearling sale including the Amarina Farm (as agent)-consigned lot 187, the first foal from the G2 Wakeful Stakes winner Rocha as well as the Baramul Stud-consigned lot 659, a colt out of the multiple G1 placed Red Ransom mare Kylikwong, already the dam of the Stakes placed Chateau Margaux and the recent Listed Christmas Cup winner Cantonese.

Medaglia d'Oro is standing the current southern hemisphere breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $77,000 (inc. GST).
