Street Boss two-year-old makes amends in Percy Sykes Stakes

Slipper placegetter Tempted far too good in G2 consolation at Royal Randwick

Tempted looked unlucky when a close third in the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes last month and proved that point with a dominant victory in the G2 Percy Sykes Stakes at Randwick on Saturday, 12 April.

Caught three-wide in midfield from her outside barrier at the 1,200m start, Tempted sprinted quickly over the rise to beat Savvy Hallie and Within The Law by nearly two lengths in race-record time of 1 minute 9.22 seconds.

The chestnut failed to secure a clear run in the Slipper but jockey James McDonald took luck out of the equation on Saturday and Tempted did the rest.

Also a winner of the G2 Reisling Stakes 1,200m at Randwick on 8 March, Tempted boosted her record to three wins and two placings from six starts under Godolphin Australia head trainer James Cummings.

Out of the grand broodmare Calliope, who is also the mother of four-time Stakes winner Kallos, Tempted continued a great run of recent success enjoyed by the progeny of Darley sire Street Boss (US).

Elphinstone (Inflection), Tentyris (Deity) and Another Wil (Arohanui) have all won Black-Type races in Australia over the past eight weeks, while Spirited Boss (Spirited Storm) won the Listed Sanibel Island Stakes over 1,500m at Gulfstream Park in Florida on 29 March.

Street Boss has now sired 998 winners worldwide of 3008 races, including 81 Black-Type winners of 161 Stakes races.

At last week’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, four lots by the stallion sold for an average of $387,500 and to a high of $800,000.

Street Boss stands at Darley’s Northwood Park stud near Seymour in Victoria for a service fee of $66,000, including GST.
