Stakes victory for Bunairgead

Daughter of New Approach lands the Lenabane Stakes in impressive style

New Approach’s three-year-old daughter Bunairgead clearly relished the step up in distance to 2400m, bettering her male rivals to win the Listed Lenabane Stakes at Roscommon on 8 July.

Settled just off the pace under jockey Rory Cleary, Jim Bolger’s homebred took up the running in the home straight and once in front, quickly moved clear and ran on superbly to win bytwo and three-quarter lengths.

Bunairgead is out of the Stakes-winning, G2-performing mare Montecito, herself a daughter of G2 winner Storm and Sunshine and a half-sister to multiple Stakes winner Smile Again.

She is one of five Black type winners so far this year for her talented young sire, who is also responsible for 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes winner Dawn Approach, Oaks winner Talent, Dante Stakes winner and Derby second Libertarian, plus Flemington G3 winner Montsegur.

New Approach stands at Northwood Park at a fee of $55,000 including GST.
