Shamardal adds further Black type success

Four-year-old Happy Hippy salutes in the Summoned Stakes

Shamardal mare Happy Hippy made a sustained run down the outside in the last race of the 2010 Spring Carnvial to take out the Listed Summoned Stakes at Sandown by a short neck.

Trained by John Thompson and ridden patiently by Craig Newitt, Happy Hippy added the Summoned Stakes to her earlier Black type victory in the Listed James HB Carr Stakes back in April.

Bred by Coastal Thoroughbreds, Happy Hippy is out of the Soviet Lad mare Springburn, a half-sister to G1 winner Notoire.

Springburn has a yearling colt by the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Nadeem, who was incidentally represented by his first Stakes performer on the same day when two-year-old colt The Aftershock finished a good third in the Listed Welcome Stakes in New Zealand.

No fewer than 14 of Shamardal’s 20 2010 Stakes winners have won at Group level, including four G1 winners in Captain Sonador, Casamento, Faint Perfume and Lope de Vega.
