Second G1 win for Appearance

In a tried and tested pattern for the Commands mare Appearance, trainer Guy Walter set his mare for G1 glory at the third run of her current campaign.

Racing third up last campaign she claimed the G1 Myer Classic during the spring, third up this campaign it was another of Australia’s premier G1 races for fillies and mares, the G1 Coolmore Classic.

One of nine G1 winners for her ever consistent sire, the Sheikh Mohammed-owned four-year-old mare settled mid-filed during the run and when the field headed for home, jockey Blake Shinn pulled her out wide to make her run. In a three-way photo finish, the impressive looking mare had a nose to spare over Red Tracer, with a further nose back to three-year-old filly Norzita.

Trainer Guy Walter indicated the mare would now head to the G1 Queen Of The Turf before a tilt at the G1 Doncaster Handicap. Having his best season yet, no stallion has achieved more G1 winners this season than Commands, with three-year-olds Epaulette and Commanding Jewel joining their year-older paternal half-sister as winners at the elite level this season.

Bred by Darley, Appearance is out of the Grand Lodge mare Disguise, making her a full-sister to the Stakes winner Mascareri. Disguise has a two-year-old Strategic filly named Intendment, a yearling full-sister to Appearance and foaled a Domesday filly in November.

As the sire of 55 Stakes winners internationally including G1 winners Purple, Paratroopers, Undue and Darley stallion Skilled, Commands will be represented by eight yearlings at the forthcoming Inglis Easter yearling sale which can be viewed here.
