Sales success for Darley’s young stallions

First foal by Hard Spun sells for US$375,000

The first northern hemisphere weanlings by Darley stallion Hard Spun are selling now, and progeny of the G1 King’s Bishop Stakes winner proved popular at both Keeneland and Fasig-Tipton yesterday, with his first weanling to go through the ring realising US$375,000 ($402,821).

The dark bay colt, who was bought by Trail Ridge Farm is out of the Stakes-winning mare Sweet Minister – already dam of a G1 winner in Sinister Minister.

Also at Keeneland, Street Cry was responsible for the second-highest priced weanling of the day when his colt out of the unraced Giant’s Causeway mare Pathway To Heaven sold for US$420,000 ($451,160). Purchased by McMahon Bloodstock LLC, his dam is a daughter of champion four-time G1 winner Jewel Princess.

At Fasig-Tipton, Hard Spun’s top price was US$300,000 ($322,247) for a colt out of Miss Abita – a three-parts sister to the dam of Eight Belles.

The first weanlings by Street Sense also sold at Fasig-Tipton. Hip 37, a bay filly out of Under Fire (Gulch) was bought by Tail Feathers Farm for US$110,000 ($118,157). Under Fire is a half-sister to three Stakes winners including Incinerate – the dam of G1 Gazelle Stakes winner In The Gold bought. Later in the session, his filly out of the unraced Vindication mare Gwinnett sold for US$185,000 ($198,705) to Stockplace.

Also at Fasig-Tipton, Ginger Punch, in foal to Bernardini was bought by Katsumi Yoshida for US$1.6m ($1,718,536).
