Rydilluc runs away in the Penn Mile Stakes

Medaglia d’Oro’s son scores second stakes win this season

After a fantastic win in the G3 Palm Beach Stakes at Gulfstream Park in March, Rydilluc was sent out the favourite in the G1 Toyota Bluegrass Stakes at Keeneland where he produced a very good effort for fourth. Favourite again on 1 June, the three-year-old colt didn’t let fans down, going on to win by three-quarters-of-a-length in the Listed Penn Mile Stakes at Penn National, USA.

The son of Medaglia d'Oro stalked just behind the leader in the 1600m race on the turf and then raced two wide into the second turn. With some encouragement from jockey Edgar Prado down the home straight, the colt drew clear to record his fourth win from six starts, twice at Stakes level.

Bred by Hill 'n' Dale Equine Holdings, Inc. & Gaines-Gentry Thoroughbreds, LLC, Rydilluc is out of the Stakes-winning mare Swift And Classy. He is a half-brother to multiple Stakes winner Gold Wonder, as well as two other Stakes performers. The colt's second dam is G1-placed Sociable Duck.

Medaglia d’Oro is a sire of many talents, with the ability to sire runners on all surfaces. His progeny include 9 G1 winners such as Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty, and CashCall Futurity winner Violence.

Medaglia d’Oro's first southern-bred crop where a hit in the sales ring, selling up to $500,000 at Easter, the highest priced achieved for a first-season sire this year and his Easter yearling sale median was only bettered by Redoute's Choice and Fastnet Rock.

As the sire of 22 Graded/Group winners to date, Medaglia d'Oro will stand the forthcoming southern hemisphere breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $55,000 (inc. GST).
