One for one..

With Darley’s first-season sire Denman, a winner of the G1 Golden Rose, having his first runners in Australia on October 5, it was the Bryan Guy-trained Grapevine who had the honour of being the first runner for her sire – and first winner.

Sitting in a forward position throughout, the Chris Munce-ridden Grapevine held off the runner up Totally Sure to win by a nose with a further length-and-a-half to the third placed Ruby Soho.

Bred by Glenlogan Park Stud, Grapevine is the first named foal from the G3 Doomben Roses winner Lasoron, a half-sister to the Stakes performed Fair Decree. Sold at the 2013 Magic Million Yearling Sale for $42,500 to her trainer, Grapevine’s dam was sent back to Denman last season with the mare due to foal any time now.

A winner of nine of his 12 career starts including four at stakes level, Denman’s first-crop of yearlings impressed in the sales ring selling up to $200,000 and leading the average price achieved for a first-season sire at Karaka.

Standing the current breeding season along side his sire Lonhro at Darley Kelvinside, Denman's fee is $27,500 (inc. GST), while Lonhro's is $88,000 (inc. GST).
