First Australian runner a winner for New Approach

The Epsom Derby winner New Approach got off to the perfect start when his first Australian runner sailed home an impressive winner.

The Darley-homebred Montsegur broke sharply and then led her rivals a merry dance to win the Joe Brown Plate over 1000m at Caulfield, running a slick 57.72 seconds.

Montsegur is out of the three-times winner Chatoyant, a half-sister to G3 Sweet Embrace Stakes winner Legally Bay. Montsegur has a 2011 filly by Street Sense and visited Street Cry in 2012.

New Approach made a dazzling start to his stud career with his first runners in Europe in 2012, making history when Dawn Approach, Newfangled and Tha'Ir all won juvenile stakes races at Royal Ascot.

The Champion Two and Three-year-old Colt in Europe of his year, New Approach will be represented by three yearling's at January's Magic Millions yearling sale; lot 429, a bay colt out of the Listed-winning Jetball mare Belle Ball to be consigned by Eliza Park (as agent), as will lot 482, a bay filly out of a winning half-sister to the Listed-winning, G1 placed The Big Chill. The final New Approach yearling to be offered at the sale will be lot 651, a chestnut filly out of the Listed-winning Fuji Kiseki mare Just A Kiseki.
