Medagalia d’Oro’s Mshawish is magnifique!

Colt becomes sire’s 44th career Stakes winner

After breaking his maiden at Saint-Cloud in April, Medaglia d'Oro’s three-year-old son Mshawish jumped right into Group company, placing second in the G3 Prix de Guiche the following month. Taking aim at the highest level, he reeled off two solid performances in the French Derby and the St James’s Palace Stakes placing fourth in both. Dropping back into Listed company on August 6, his recent efforts were rewarded with a nice victory in the Prix De Tourgeville over one mile at Deauville.

Mshawish was positioned by jockey Frankie Dettori in between two groups of three horses in the early stages of the race but the jockey then asked the colt to pick it up as the field entered the straight. With encouragement, Mshawish responded admirably and wore down the leaders to snatch victory right on the line.

Bred in Kentucky by OTIF 2007, Mshawish is out of the Thunder Gulch mare Thunder Bayou, a half-sister to Stakes winners Meteorologist and Bayou Breeze.

Medaglia d’Oro is the sire of 43 other Stakes winners, including six Graded winners in 2013, featuring G1 winner Marketing Mix. He is the sire of eight other G1 winners, including Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra and the recently-retired Violence.

In the sales ring, he was the leading first season sire at this year's Inglis Easter yearling sale with a top price of $500,000, while just last night at Fasig-Tipton’s Saratoga Sale, his yearling son out of A.P. Indy’s daughter Crystal Water was the highest-priced colt at the sale’s first session selling for $875,000.

Medaglia d'Oro stands at Darley's Kelvinside property in New South Wales at a fee of $55,000 (inc. GST).
