Two-year-old Shaft gelding Magic Shaft becomes the first Stakes winner for his sire

Running third on debut at G3 level, the talent that two-year-old Shaft gelding Magic Shaft possesses was always evident. Running second at his next two starts, the John Sargent trained gelding faced the starter for the fourth time on February 25, taking out the Listed Reid and Harrison Slipper over 1200m at Matamata, New Zealand, by three-quarters of a length.

Bred by Mr DA Blair of NSW, Magic Shaft is out of the Marauding mare Adaptable Lass and comes from the family of Stakes winners Fashion Fun, Musical Chairs, Adaptable and Romantic Moment.

The winner of the G2 Sliver Slipper on debut, Shaft has sired four winners from 10 starters to date and is currently the equal leader in terms of winners and Stakes winners in Australia and New Zealand.
