Indianapolis talk of the town with San Pedro win

Medaglia d’Oro colt is sire’s 51st Stakes winner

The city of Indianapolis might be known for the horse power that fuels its famous automobile race every year, but another Indianapolis of the four-legged variety brought his own kind of horse power to the races on January 20th. The three-year-old son of Medaglia d'Oro, a winner of his only career start in November, certainly gave the impression that there might be more victories to come as he galloped out an easy winner winner of the 1200m San Pedro Stakes at Santa Anita, and now takes aim at upcoming prep races for the Kentucky Derby, according to trainer Bob Baffert.

The beautiful dark bay or brown sophomore colt settled in in second place shortly after the start where he remained until the turn for home. With some prompting by jockey Martin Garcia, Indianapolis easily powered away from his rivals to win going away.

A $490,000 Keeneland September Sales yearling, Indianapolis was bred in Kentucky by Turner Breeders, LLC. He is a half-brother to G3 winners Heart Ashley and Ashley’s Kitten and his G3-placed dam is a half-sister to the multiple Graded winner Hostess.

Medagalia d’Oro's oldest Australian-bred progeny are two-year-olds and at Flemington on Saturday Nostradamus became his first winner in Australia with a scintillating debut win which saw him firm in to second favourite for next month's G1 Blue Diamond Stakes.

Medaglia d'Oro has just one yearling in next week's Karaka Premier yearling sale, lot 465 a filly from the family of Street Cry's sire Machiavellian.
