Golden Lad rises to the top in Mountainview Handicap

Son of Medaglia d'Oro scores third Stakes win

Sent off as the heavy favorite in the Mountainview Handicap, Medaglia d'Oro's five-year-old son Golden Lad certainly rose to the occassion, impressing at Penn National to earn his third Stakes win lifetime.

In the one-and-one-eighth-mile race Golden Lad pressed the pace along the inside in second. Into the far turn the son of Medaglia d'Oro took advantage of the lead, and opened up impressively down the stretch to coast to victory.

A homebred for Robsham Stables, Golden Lad's other wins include the G3 Razorback Handicap as a four-year-old and the Essex Handicap at Oaklawn earlier this year. Golden Lad is out of the Stakes-winning mare Broadway Gold, a half-sister to G1 winner Dialed In. Broadway Gold is also the dam of G2 winner and G1 Kentucky Oaks-placed Broadway's Alibi and Stakes winner and G1-placed R Gypsy Gold, by Bernardini.

Medaglia d'Oro has had a sensational year filled with talented runners, headlined by G1 Golden Slipper victor VancouverG1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap winner Mshawish and G2 Azeri Stakes winner Gold Medal Dancer, among others.

Medaglia d'Oro will stand the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 inc. GST.
