Gold Medal Dancer shines in G2 Azeri Stakes

Medaglia d'Oro filly defeats Untapable at Oaklawn

The Medaglia d'Oro girls were showing off March 14. Just a few hours after three-year-old Taylor S stole the show in the Any Limit Stakes, the sire's daughter Gold Medal Dancer ran the race of her life in the G2 Azeri Stakes to defeat Eclipse Champion Untapable at Oaklawn Park.

In the one-and-one-sixteenth-mile race Gold Medal Dancer set the pace for an uncontested lead. At the quarter pole Untapable began to challenge, but Gold Medal Dancer fought back down the stretch and held the filly off for a sensational wire-to-wire win.

A homebred for Pin Oak Stud, Gold Medal Dancer is out of the Stakes winning and Graded-placed Kingmambo mare Bachata.

Gold Medal Dancer becomes the 34th Graded Stakes winner lifetime for sire Medaglia d'Oro with her impressive win. The sire has had a tremendous year thus far, with 11 Stakes winners worldwide, among them six Graded or Group winners. They include G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap winner Mshawish, unbeaten G2 winner Vancouver, and previous G1 winner Lochte's win in the G3 Tampa Bay Stakes. The sire is best known for his Horse Of The Year daughter Rachel Alexandra.

Medaglia d'Oro will be represented at the forthcoming Inglis Easter Yearling Sale by a draft of 12 yearlings.
