Dream result for New Approach filly

May's Dream wins rich Elvstroem Classic at Swan Hill

If you send a Melbourne Cup runner-up to an Epsom Derby winner, you are more than likely thinking your horse will come in to its own in an Oaks or a Derby as a three-year-old.

So if you win a 1300m two-year-old race worth $130,000 like May’s Dream did at Swan Hill on June 7, you have every right to get excited about what the future might hold.

A daughter of New Approach, May’s Dream is out of She’s Archie, winner of the G1 South Australian Oaks and runner-up to Makybe Diva in the 2003 Melbourne Cup.

Trained by Darren Weir, May’s Dream was having her second start in the VOBIS Gold Elvstroem Classic at Swan Hill following a fast-finishing third on debut at Donald.

Ridden by Damien Lane, May’s Dream once again settled towards the rear of the field and came with a sweeping run in the home straight to win by a length in a manner that suggests many more wins could be in store for the filly.

Raced by a syndicate headed up by breeder Warrol Dunn, May’s Dream is the third foal and first winner for She’s Archie.

New Approach is the sire of European Champion two-year-old and three-time G1 winner Dawn Approach as well as G1 Epsom Oaks winner Talent. His first crop in Australia boasts four winners including G3-winning filly Montsegur.

New Approach will stand the coming breeding season at Northwood Park at a fee of $55,000 inc. GST.
