Daughter of Astern returns in style in G3 Toy Show Quality

Parisal wins second Stakes race and lifts profile of her sire Astern

Parisal won her second Stakes race and rewarded her sire Astern with another Stakes success when she resumed from a spell on Saturday, 19 August to win the G3 Toy Show Quality over 1,100m at Royal Randwick.

First-up after finishing second in the G3 P.J. Bell Stakes at Randwick on 1 April, Parisal survived a wide run to grab Queen Of The Ball in the shadows of the past to win by a half-neck. Parisal triumphed over a high-class field that included the G1 winner, Zougotcha.

A Stakes winner at Moonee Valley in March, Parisal took her record to four wins and two placings from seven starts for prize money earnings of $444,875.

Out of the Stakes winner Circular - the dam of exciting colt Cylinder, has a yearling filly by Bivouac and is in foal to Brazen Beau - Parisal ran right up to her recent excellent trials.

Godolphin head trainer James Cummings said he would target “low-hanging fruit” with the four-year-old mare during the spring.

Astern won five races - including the 2016 G1 Golden Rose (1,400m) - and was placed twice from just nine starts.

His progeny include G1 winners Golden Mile and Affaire A Suivre, and G2 winners Aft Cabin, Seradess and Sail By.

Last season, Astern was the only stallion in Australia to sire two G1-winning three-year-olds.

Astern has sired nine Stakes winners of 18 Stakes races and will stand at Kelvinside for a service fee of $22,000, GST inclusive.
