Bernardini hot at Keeneland November

Top prices again for mares in foal to Bernardini

On day two of Keeneland’s November Sale, Champion Bernardini completed a mixed sale hat trick of sorts as his third in-foal mare in as many days sold for over seven figures.

Discreet Cat’s G2-winning daughter Mamma Kimbo began the run at Fasig-Tipton’s November sale when she brought $1.2 million. The next day, during Keeneland’s first session of its November sale, G1 winner R Heat Lightning realised a final bid of $1.6 million. And on Keeneland’s second day of its marathon sale, G3 winner Tapicat was hammered down for $1.3 million.

Tapicat, who is a half-sister to G1 winner Pohave, out of a full sister to Champion Train Robbery, was consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, Agent. The final price of $1.6 million was paid by Shadai Farm. About an hour before Tapicat went through the ring, the dam of G3 winner/G1-placed Sky Kingdom also sold in-foal to Bernardini and fetched $900,000 with C. F. Farm the purchaser. From the consignment of Knockgriffin Farm, the mare’s first dam is a full sister to A.P. Indy and Summer Squall.

The dam of Hard Spun’s G1 winner Zo Impressive sold in-foal to Hard Spun with a final figure of $1.1 million. The mare, G1 winner Zoftig, is also the dam of G1 winner Zaftig. Sold by Warrendale Sales, Stephen Hillen was the purchaser.

Lonhro, whose first North American foals arrived this year, was well represented by an in-foal mare from his second book. Russian Symbol, a winning daughter of Danehill Dancer and a full to G3 winner/G1-placed Esoterique, was purchased by Nancy Dillman/Nicoma, agent for $400,000. Russian Symbol, sold by Mill Ridge Sales, is also a half to French Champion Russian Hope, G2 winners Russian Cross and Archange d’Or and other Stakes winners Russian Hill and Russian Desert.

Keeneland's November sale continues until Thursday, November 14th.
