Meidung becomes the first southern hemisphere winner for the Champion three-year-old

Having her first start off the back off a barrier trial placing two weeks prior, two-year-old Bernardini filly Meidung created a huge impression with an impressive two-and-three-quarter length victory over Dance On Stars and Gonski filly Kyoto at Rosehill over 1100m on October 22.

Only the third runner in Australia to date by the Champion three-year-old Bernardini, Meidung was bred by Darley Australia and is the fifth foal of the Canny Lad mare Amish, a half-sister to the G2-winning, G1 performing Lonhro gelding Pinwheel.

Covering stellar books of mares in each of his four seasons in the southern hemisphere to date, Bernardini has experienced a great start to career in the northern hemisphere, where he is the leading second-crop sire and is also now the sire of seven Graded/Group winners from his first two crops of runners. His G1 winners include Stay Thirsty, Biondetti and A Z Warrior, while just a few weeks ago his three-year-old son To Honor And Serve earned his third Graded Stakes victory in the $1 million G2 Pennsylvania Derby.

Bernardini is standing the current breeding season at Darley Kelvinside for a fee of $38,500 (inc GST).
