Raspberries is sweet
Lonhro’s four-year-old daughter Raspberries won her second G3 contest with an all-the-way win in the PFD Food Services Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.
Ridden across from her wide barrier by Kerrin McEvoy, Raspberries settled on the lead after 400m and she was never headed. Clear into the straight she accelerated away in the rain softened going to score comfortably by two and a quarter lengths over Biancon Rose with Booklet in third.
The PFD Food Services Stakes is her second G3 win after the Cameron Handicap (1500m) last September and she advances her record to six wins and four placings from 15 starts with earnings of $347,600.
Raspberries is the second Australian Group winner on the day for Lonhro following the brilliant win of two-year-old colt Pierro in the G2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill.
One of 32 Stakes winners for her sire, Raspberries is out of La Melba, a daughter of Grand Lodge, and bred on the same cross as the Listed winner Dissolved. La Melba has a two-year-old filly by Strategic.
The catalogue for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in April will feature 26 yearlings sired by last season’s Australian champion stallion.
