First-season sire Domesday was represented by his third individual winner at Randwick on February 26, when the extremely impressive two-year-old colt Pressday scored by one-and-three-quarter lengths in the Preferred Seating Maiden Handicap.
Having been prepared for the run with two convincing trial wins, the Chris Waller-trainee was sent out the short-priced favourite. With the result never looking in doubt, Pressday defeated the Peter Snowden-trained stable mates Jigsaws (Shamardal) and Reckons (Lonhro) to lead home a Darley-sired trifecta. The form of this race could prove interesting in the lead-up to the G1 Golden Slipper as Jigsaws had finished second on debut to fellow Shamardal colt Run For Wilson in the Listed Breeders’ Plate.
Purchased from the Inglis Classic yearling sale for $38,000 the colt has justified the early faith of Waller who has often spoken publicly to the media about this colt being one of the best two-year-olds in his stable this season.
Bred by Mr R D See, Pressday is out of the Kaaptive Edition mare Kaaptive Empress, a winner of nine races and a half-sister to the dam of G1 winner The Mighty Lions. Kaaptive Empress has a filly foal by Danzig’s G1 winner Librettist on the ground and was covered by Domesday last season.
A winner of the G2 Silver Slipper Stakes at his second race start, Domesday will be represented this Saturday by his daughter Divorces, also having her second start in the G2 contest. An impressive second-place performance on her first racecourse appearance will see the Peter Snowden-trained filly start one of the favoured runners in her Stakes race debut.
The Inglis Premier yearling sale commences on Monday in Melbourne, and Domesday will be represented by Lot 247, an impressive black colt from the draft of Riverdene Stud. A half-brother to the G3-winning, G1-performed Tarzi, this colt is closely related to Stakes winners Sashed, Freemason, Santissima (Quest For Fame), Bradshaw and Debrief.
Currently sitting in equal-fourth position on the first-season sires’ table courtesy of metropolitan winners Backgammon and Giresun, Domesday covered an impressive book of 139 mares last season from his Twin Hills base.
