As part of the Toorak Park Reduction Sale, the G1-performed Dehere mare Picholine could prove an exceptional purchase. The dam of dual G1 Derby winner Rebel Raider and this season’s G3 Norman Robinson Stakes winner Shamoline Warrior (Shamardal), Picholine was sure to be highly regarded. Carrying a positive test to Reset (pictured), with the resultant foal being a full relation to Rebel Raider, the mare was knocked down to Hancock Quality Bloodstock for $440,000 after a spirited bidding duel.
Another prominent lot was the Southern Cross Breeders-consigned Leica Light. Entering the ring as lot 85, the Stakes-performed mare comes from the family of the multiple Stakes-winning Thunder Gulch mare Delbrae. Purchased by Victorian outfit Tim Stewart & Associates Pty Ltd for $200,000, the mare carried a positive test to leading third-season sire Lonhro, sire of recent G2 winner Renaissance.
Patinack Farm were both buyers and sellers during day one, but it was their affinity with Shamardal that saw them acquire lot 197 during the later part of the day. Having purchased or bred six of Shamardal’s Stakes horses to date; Run For Wilson, Weasley, Marquardt, Happy Hippy, No Evidence Need and Shamardashing, it was of no surprise to see the farm offer $120,000 for the winning Canny Lad mare Lycme in foal to the European Champion two-year-old.
The lone mare in the sale in foal to Danzig’s King’s Bishop Stakes winner Hard Spun was knocked down to Western Australian-based Premium Bloodstock for $100,000, a positive result for the stallion who stood his second season at a fee of $22,000. Part of the Toorak Park Reduction Sale, Glory Be is a Stakes-performed daughter of Royal Academy from the family of Stakes winners Excited Angel, Aquiver and Typhoon.
Widden Stud consigned lot 219, the Exceed And Excel Stakes performer Miraculous Miss who was knocked down to New Zealand farm Cheval Stud for $170,000. A full-sister to the Stakes-winning juvenile Outdo, the filly is yet to go to stud.
